Wikipedia somehow had the number of test subjects — 16 women and 20 men — but no indication where those numbers came from.

When we smell something, tiny odor molecules bind to receptor cells that travel directly to the brain for processing. Smell—unlike the other senses—is analyzed almost instantly. This rapid analysis is the reason why smelling something familiar can trigger an emotional response instantly, and sometimes these responses can be quite powerful. Think of the last time you smelled chocolate chip cookies. Did you feel a cozy, comfortable feeling?
Did you find yourself in an upbeat, casual mood? If smells can solicit hefty emotional responses, can they trigger us to have romantic feelings? Scientists still debate the answer, but they all can agree that the discussion starts with pheromones. Pheromones describe the special cocktail of chemicals that our body releases that may influence the way people behave towards us.
These chemicals—when smelled—are known to stimulate the hypothalamus, a part of the brain known to regulate sexual behavior, mood, and hormones. After collecting the t-shirts, he asked 49 different women to sniff each t-shirt and rate the odor for intensity, pleasantness, and sexiness.

It can be wonderful… amazing… magical, even, if you have the right partner doing it. The vagina is a weird, delicate, sensitive part of our bodies, and while it holds the key to sexual pleasure, it is also the place where we pee out of, bleed out of, and poop pretty close to. Again, vaginas are sensitive and delicate, and any kind of nice-smelling douche, spray, or wipe can easily upset your pH balance, leading to an infection, which leads to a far worse smell than the one down there on a regular basis.

But Brain and Lavigne aren’t the first to come up with the idea of olfactory dating. Pheromone Parties were all the rage a couple of years ago, with young men and women sniffing random bags.
Could birth control be to blame for some of these breakups? Recent research suggests that the contraceptive pill—which prevents women from ovulating by fooling their body into believing it is pregnant—could affect which types of men women desire. Going on or off the pill during a relationship, therefore, may tempt a woman away from her man. Studies suggest that females prefer the scent of males whose MHC genes differ from their own, a preference that has probably evolved because it helps offspring survive: A study published in August in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B, however, suggests that women on the pill undergo a shift in preference toward men who share similar MHC genes.
Although no one knows why the pill affects attraction, some scientists believe that pregnancy—or in this case, the hormonal changes that mimic pregnancy—draws women toward nurturing relatives. Women who start or stop taking the pill, then, may be in for some relationship problems.
